19th Century Sorrento marquetry tripod table

An exhibition quality 19th century Sorrento marquetry tripod table, the table is made from olive wood, ebony and other exotic woods, the top inlaid with eight figures of various country folk of the region, the center of the top having a circular wood panel with the town NICE written in the center supported on a barley twist stem coming out of a carved flower head, standing on three splayed legs inlaid with ebony. This table was made in the southern Italian seaside town of Sorrento and would of been made for a person of considerable stature in NICE, which up until 1860 was part of Italy. Circa 1840.
