A superb quality 18th Century mahogany bureau bookcase, having a wonderful pierced broken arch pediment with a decorative turned and fluted finial at the centre above a pierced frieze, the top section having two astrigal glazed doors opening to reveal three adjustable shelves inside, the doors having two decorative astrigal star shapes on each door which makes this bookcase stands out from other bookcases, the fall opening to reveal a superb fitted interior with various drawers and compartments, each drawer front having chequered inlay, at the centre of the interior is an arched cupboard door flanked either side by fluted columns, this whole centre section can be pulled out to reveal two secret deed slides at the back. the base section having four graduated oak lined drawers with original brass engraved swan neck handles and escutcheons, standing on ogee bracket feet. Circa 1780.
